Am I Naugthy?, 2016, pencil on paper, 205 x 130 cm

Homo Ludens – The Playing Human is represented through the image of a child. Here, the child is depicted climbing at the threshold of a doorway. Resisting environmental influences, testing their motor skills, embodying promise, reaching towards the light, and undergoing a process of mental expansion…

Childhood is a liberated period of time, a beginning that reminds us of existence, and a form of resistance. On the boundary between being a child and the condition of adulthood, the work questions the state of being “naughty” that is attributed to the child.

Play contains its own rules and rituals within predetermined boundaries. The boundary separates our inner world from the external reality beyond us. The body establishes its relationship with the outside world by touching the edges of the canvas, which separate its own world from the viewer’s space.
